For 18 months, government negotiators swayed back and forth working on the renegotiation of NAFTA. On the evening of Sun., Sept. 30, a deal was reached and the newly minted United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) entered a 60 day revision phase. Unfortunately for Canadian dairy, poultry and egg producers, some of the supply management system marketplace that officials promised to protect, was given up in the making of the deal. Without an official text, it is too early to grasp the full ramifications of the deal on the agricultural industry but one thing is clear; change is coming.         Glover photo
