NEWINGTON – A Labour Day weekend tradition for decades, plans for the 2022 edition of the Stormont County Fair are well underway.  Scheduled for Sept.  2 – 5, there is certain to be entertainment and enjoyment for people of all ages, with opening ceremonies planned for 1 p.m. on Sat.,  Sept. 3.

Barbara-Ann Glaude, secretary-treasurer of the Stormont Agricultural Society, explained the 2021 Stormont County Fair was a “hybrid version, no in-person spectators,” but this year’s event will be an in-person fair, with organizers looking forward to seeing everyone.

Over the four days of the fair, there are several cattle shows planned which include Holstein, Ayrshire and Jersey, with Hereford, Simmental, Angus and other breed/cross bred beef competitions.  A crowd favourite, horse competitions will include Heavy Horse and Miniatures, an Xtreme Cowboy Race, Horse Drawing Competition as well as an English and Western Horse Show.

Family Time Amusements midway will be on-site providing fun and excitement for people of all ages.  There are daily entertainment activities available including face painting, Junkyard Symphony performances and a petting zoo to name just a few. For those wishing to enter homecraft competitions, Glaude mentioned the entries are submitted to the fair office between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 2.

Crowd favourites such as the Fair Parade, Demo Derby and Garden Tractor Pull return this year with musical entertainment available in the dugout on the fairgrounds.  More information is available on the social media sites of the Stormont Agricultural Society.
