ALFRED – The Fonds de la relève agricole Franco-Ontarienne is giving $14,000 in awards to students and entrepreneurs in agriculture. After this year’s giveaway, more than $50,000 will have been distributed to the next generation of farmers over four years.
Two $6,000 ‘Business Project’ category awards will be granted to start-ups of agri-food projects. As well as four ‘Admission/Studies awards’ of $500 each to students in a field related to agriculture, studied in French.
The Business Project category award helps business significantly. For example, Marie Estella Richard, 2017 recipient and goat milk producer, used the money to buy hay and straw. Financial stability isn’t always accessible to young businesses. Financial help of this kind is a step toward that stability.
The Fonds de la relèveagricole Franco-Ontarienne was created by the UCFO to support the next generation of farmers. Applications for the awards is open to all. Copies of the application forms are available on the UCFO website. Contest ends on Aug. 15, at 5 p.m.
