OTTAWA – The 34th annual Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Auction, organized in support of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), has achieved a new milestone – raising an impressive $39,175 for children’s healthcare.

The event, a long-standing tradition in the community, continues to grow in both participation and generosity. This year’s top-selling item was a rare scale model collector toy – an International Harvester 1256 tractor, number one of its kind – donated annually by VITEO. The highly sought-after piece was purchased by George Tackaberry for $15,000, making it the standout highlight of the auction.

With this year’s success, the auction’s total contributions over its 34-year history have now surpassed $375,000, a testament to the ongoing commitment of local farmers, businesses, and supporters.

Funds raised in 2026 will go toward CHEO’s 1Door4Care Initiative, also known as the CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre. This ambitious project will bring together multiple care locations from across Ottawa into a single, state-of-the-art facility on CHEO’s Smyth Road campus, improving access and coordination of care for children and families.

Organizers noted the strong presence of returning donors and buyers – something that has become a hallmark of the event. Their continued support plays a vital role in the auction’s ongoing success.

“Year after year, we are grateful for the generosity of our community,” said Mike Sullivan on behalf of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association (OVSGA). “We truly couldn’t do this without them.”

As the auction moves forward into its next chapter, it remains a shining example of how local efforts can make a lasting impact on healthcare in the region.
