EASTERN ONTARIO – Vintage Iron and Traditions of Eastern Ontario (VITEO) is proud to announce the launch of the Vintage Iron 2025 Minogue Youth Initiative, a new program aimed at engaging young people in the preservation and restoration of historical rural artifacts. This initiative is a meaningful step forward in our mission of “Dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of our rural life.”
The inspiration for this inaugural year comes from long-time member and cherished community supporter, John Minogue, who recently held an auction sale. As part of our commitment to preserving rural heritage, VITEO purchased a 1 ½ H.P. McCormick Deering Model M Stationary Engine from John’s collection. This engine, a fine example of early 20th-century farm technology, was acquired for $750 + HST.
VITEO would also like to recognize James Auction Service for their generous support—Stewart James made a $125 donation to VITEO immediately following the sale, helping to bring this initiative to life.
The Minogue Youth Initiative invites young people aged 12 to 24 to submit a two-page application describing their interest in preserving and promoting early rural life in Eastern Ontario. This is a unique opportunity for one dedicated individual to receive and own the engine, with the goal of restoring it and showcasing it publicly.
The expectations for the winning applicant are as follows:
- Fully restore and get the engine operational
- Become a Vintage Iron member
- Display the engine at their local fall fair—and preferably at multiple fairs
- Exhibit the restored engine at the Ottawa Farm Show
Once awarded, the engine will be the property of the recipient, and they will assume full responsibility for safe use and handling. Vintage Iron will not be liable once the engine is transferred.
While the application form is still in development, interested applicants are encouraged to visit the website at Vintage Iron and Traditions of Eastern Ontario and use the “Contact Us” tab or email info@vintageiron.ca to request an application when it becomes available. The deadline for submissions is yet to be announced. Stay tuned to their Facebook page, Vintage Iron and Traditions, for updates and news. This group is excited to see how the 2025 Minogue Youth Initiative sparks new passion for rural heritage in the next generation!
