The 2024 fall crop report for Eastern Ontario shows a mix of outcomes due to weather conditions and planting decisions earlier in the season.

Corn

Corn production in Eastern Ontario is performing well, with healthy, well-filled cobs, and crops maturing on time.  Despite the challenging wet conditions during spring planting, yields are expected to be strong.  However, across Ontario, there has been a slight decline in overall corn production, mainly due to a reduction in harvested area, though yields per acres are expected to rise slightly.

Soybeans

In Ontario, soybean production is anticipated to increase by 6.9 percent compared to 2023, with higher harvested areas.  However, yields are expected to remain relatively stable.  In Eastern Ontario, the crops have benefited from timely rains during the growing season, contributing to healthy growth.

Winter Wheat

Winter wheat planting is underway for 2025, following a relatively successful 2024 harvest, though overall wheat production in Ontario has dropped by about 16.6 per cent due to lower yields and harvested acres.

Overall, Eastern Ontario crops are showing resilience, with corn and soybean production faring well despite earlier concerns over wet conditions.

The predictions are here, let’s see what the final yields are later this fall.
