OTTAWA – The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Farm Show will take place at Ottawa’s EY Centre from March 11-13, 2025. One attractive feature of the show is the number of top-quality speakers who will be sharing their knowledge. One of these is Vicki Brisson who will be talking on the next generation of young farmers on Thurs., March 13, from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in hall B.
Brisson grew up on a dairy farm in the Township of Russell and knew from an early age that her future would be in agriculture, while not necessarily in farming. One of those fortunate ones who decide early what they want to do with their life and then passionately pursue it, Brisson attended the University of Guelph, Ontario Agricultural College and left with an undergraduate degree (B.A. Sc) in Animal Sciences, and a Master of Science degree, MS in Animal Nutrition.
On her Linkedin profile, Brisson describes herself as “Young leader aiming to live a healthy life and empower women ag scientists!
“I am passionate about solving complex issues of the dairy industry through learning, sharing knowledge and being a collaborative team member. My MSc thesis focused on the mathematical modelling of B-vitamin duodenal flow in lactating dairy cows to improve production efficiency.
“I aim to be a better version of myself every day, and therefore in my free time I enjoy spending time outside, reading, and volunteering. I fully invest myself in any project I take on, with care and motivation, leading my team towards the extra mile. As a sales consultant intern for Cargill Animal Nutrition during the summer of 2019 and as a 4-H Ontario Ambassador in 2016, I had the opportunity to push myself by working with my teams to create, lead, and complete a wide range of projects. I am always looking for my next big challenge!”
Because of her passion for what she does, Brisson has been interviewed several times, including during an appearance on The Rumination Podcast where she spoke on the importance of youth in agriculture.
“I’d say first and foremost, youth is the future, right? So, I think it’s important to have everyone who’s invested in the future of agriculture at the table. And what youth brings to that table is really our passion. We bring a different perspective as well. We’re, perhaps some might call us naive, but I’d say we’re starting from a blank page. And that allows us to bring new ideas, new perspectives to challenges that have been existing for decades for generations. And youth in agriculture also brings another level of connection of collaboration.”
Brisson believes that youth should have a voice in agriculture, and she does what she can to make that voice heard. She is currently the National Knowledge Mobilization Manager for Lactanet where her comfort in both official languages allows her to share her message to a much broader audience.
If you would like to hear Brisson yourself, make sure to register for her presentation at the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Farm Show on Thurs., March 13, 2025, from 12:00-1:30 p.m.
