Driven by a deep passion for agriculture, Ali McClean has spent the past five years learning from some of the most influential people in her life. Although she didn’t grow up on a farm, Ali has been fortunate to borrow cattle and gain hands-on experiences, thanks to the generosity and guidance of local farmers and neighbours.
One of Ali’s greatest passions is 4-H. A dedicated member of the West Carleton 4-H Club for nearly five years, she continues to thrive in the program. This year, she’s actively involved in six different clubs: Foodgrains, Calf, Square Dance, Barn Quilt, Leather, and Veterinary. Over the past four years, she has completed seven clubs, gaining valuable skills and friendships along the way. In March, Ali had the opportunity to assist the directors of the Ottawa Valley Farm Show, further deepening her engagement with the agricultural community.
Ali also enjoys giving back and staying connected through her local community. Just a few weeks ago, she attended the Clydsdale Dance fundraiser – a perfect evening that combined two things she loves: meeting new people and square dancing. She is currently preparing to attend the Vankleek Hill Square Dance Competition on April 26, 2025, alongside fellow club members of the West Carleton Square Dance Club.
Outside of 4-H, Ali is deeply involved with the West Carleton Skating Club, where she has been skating for the past nine years. Throughout the winter, she volunteers every Saturday with the CanSkate program, teaching and supporting young children as they learn to skate. In the summer, Ali shifts gears and laces up her cleats to play for the West Carleton Soccer Club in Dunrobin. Her team is made up of close friends – some she’s known her whole life, and others she’s met through the sport.
We look forward to following Ali’s journey through
